An invasion

we are going on a herping trip, all 14 adults and 6 children under 12. if you do not know what a herping trip is, not to worry, i don't think too many people knows, and we like to keep it that way. basically its an escapade to go look for reptiles (mainly frogs). It's an interesting activity and i like it coz it allows me to indulge in my other hobby – collecting flashlights.

we you do need a good light so that you can spot frogs easily. the way you spot them is very interesting . bring the flashlight to eye level and scan the area around you. Not too near but a good meter, meter and a half onwards. you will then see lots of reflections (hopefully) and most of them will be blueish in colour. these will be the spiders, but if you go out after the rain, most probably raindrops.

reflection from frog's eyes are usually red. same goes for cicak* (gecko). so far in all my herping trips i've not come across any snakes so i won't be able to tell you the colour of their eye's reflection. Other than frogs and toads, we have come across glow worm and a soft shell turtle. leaches, .....have not but was told they're in season this time round.

will blog more after the trip.
