Seems like you need to bargain with your boss for approval. See in what condition that he will be able to release you.
That's what I did when I got 2 weeks leave from my boss to go Chinea for holiday.
it's actually only 4 working day. there's a public holiday in that week. still i know we'll be quite busy but not to the state that we cannot cope without 4 ppl from my dept.
