wrong

today spent 1/2 day doing a promo only to be told it's wrong. sigh.....

miscommunication.

i also have another job which is quite messed up because of miscommunication. basically there were no counter checks. certain projects are harder to track as he thinks i'll keep track and i think he'll keep track.

a bit of 'tai chi' there. we're all guilty of it but in all things, it's how one recover from it. in this case, the recovery is not smooth enough as there is still a lack of follow up. long holidays are no fun when there are things at the back of your head that need to be taken care off.

anyway have a good Divali and Hari Raya.

Bah*

there's a malay saying, 'sekali air bah, sekali pasir berubah'*.

well there a bah here at my company and soon the pasir will berubah. along with the flood, there will be creatures that will not survive it.

stories are pouring out from people who have been interviewed. questions ranging from where were you working before working here to is your boss guiding you at your work to are you willing to relocate.

my dept have not gone through it yet so we don't know what kind of questions we will be asked. sometimes it's not good to go last as the stories are bound to make you go into the interview with a prejudice. but on the other hand it's better to go in prepared that not prepared.

i'm sure the landscape will change a lot in the next 4 - 6 months. lots of people will be suspicious of each other as to what information was given to the interviewers. i know there are people who have started updating their resume.

guess that's how they welcome people to the 'real' corporate world.

i'll post on the moral of the golden goose story later.

*sekali air bah, sekali pasir berubah = local idiom for changes due to changes in the powers that be.
literal translation = evertime there is a flood, the sands/landscape changes

bah = flood, in local dialect

golden goose

once upon a time there was a farmer who was very close to the king as he plants the most delicious fruits and veg for the king. one day the king gave him a goose that lays golden eggs.

soon the farmer was rich. he started diversifying into constructions, automobile, post production, broadcasting, education and many more.
some investments were good but some were bad, but there were more good than bad.

soon he was very rich and got himself a second wife. now everyone knows that 1 wife is more than anyone can handle, so 2 would spell trouble. but the rich farmer thought that money could solve everything. plus he was still close to the king.

soon there was war in the family, but he loved the new wife more. he spent so much time with her and so much money pampering her that he began to neglect the goose. he fed her with low grade feed and demanded that it lay eggs even on weekend. he had even failed to notice that the goose's golden egg was getting smaller and smaller. the garden as well was not taken care of so the veg grew less delicious and the fruits less sweet.

one day the inevitable happened, the goose laid sick. the farmer felt sorry and did not want it to die, so he sold it to another farmer for a huge sum of money who promised to nurse it back to health.

the farmer had lost his goose but had made a huge sum of money from it. he has still not fully repented and was still rich and can lead a comfortable life.

the moral of the story is.....?

Virus ??

today over the msn messenger, i got a message from a friend (so i thought) with a link that will actually download an executable ms dos prog. i clicked on it and it asked me if i want to download or save. i click on open thinking it'll bring me to another web page but nothing......nothing happened.

around half hour later i got the same message but from another person i know with the same message. i was suspicious and told that to the person where the message had originated. told her to be careful as it could be a virus.
after that episode i ran an anti-virus scan on my computer and was given a clean bill of health ( did i use the phrase correctly?).

my company had banned msn messenger a while back as there we viruses that came in through it, i sure don't want it to happen again. better be careful.

posting from home. very satisfying !

Cubicle

i got my cubicle today. it feels really weird. i'm so used to sharing a big space with all the others, it's easier to work.

now i have a 6ft partition separating me from the rest. i appreciate the privacy but still not used to not being able just turn and tell them something. for the time being i just resort to yelling over the partition if i need to tell them something.

fell like a doctor waiting for a patient to come in and sit at the other side of the table. in fact after having a short discussion with one of my staff, i yell out "next!" as he was walking out.

now i won't know if there are anyone else is around. guess, i'll soon get use to it.

acting up

blogger have been acting up on me. yesterday i had to upload from home. earlier when i tried to upload it from work there was an error message but good thing i was saved. when i check the dashboard, it was not saved under draft but posted.
i am just glad it's still around.

on Sat i did a long post and was lost ! after that no mood already. plus i can't remember what i've written. it has happened to me before and i was really mad ! i had composed an award winning poem and had hit the publish post button. the progress button kept staying at the same place and after a while i sort of got the message that it's not going to be published. sigh.... hit the back button and it was gone..... fame....fortune......
alas it was not meant to be. so here i am working my butt hard for a living.

blogger for word

i have installed it on word but it does not work. wonder why.

next week kl town will be most quiet. can't say the same for all other places, but i know traffic in penang and malacca will be jam packed like sardines. it's the same every festive seasons, i'm glad i'm local. well not so local as my 'kampung' is 45 mins drive away from where i'm staying now.

i went to a meeting just a while ago and the client made a remark. he said that the Malays would start shopping for Raya as soon as they start puasa and in the last 2 weeks concentrate on making cakes whereas the Chinese will ' make money till the very last minute then remember they have to buy things for CNY'.

do you think it's true ? i tend to wait till last moment for clothes but for the rest i try to get them earlier.

but everyone rushes back to kampung last minute :)

bye bye

This morning Methuselah was discovered dead. no foul play is suspected. he died after a short spell of illness.
even till the end, he had not shown how sick he was, but continually put up a brave front.

he will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Grumpy

Yesterday i was in a big bad mood. yelled at almost everyone. later on i hear that even my big boss had a loooooong black face (i was told). good thing i didn't have any meeting with her.

went for buka puasa at a restaurant in Section 9 Shah Alam. my dept was there as well as some close colleagues. rm 11.90. this is the 1st time i buka puasa at a restaurant. i was thinking hmm....buffet for rm 12, that's good value for money but i was wrong. maybe i'm too used to hotel kind of spread.
there were rice, chicken curry, mutton curry, beef curry, salted fish, mixed veg, soup tulang, bee hoon, fried soya (tempei ?), 2 types of soup noodles, about 2 other dishes, some malay kuih. for drinks it's bandung with chin chow.

i suppose the dishes are ok but when you want to go for 2nd round, most of the stuff are finished. i'm used to taking a just enough and refilling it later on, well guess not everyone does that. maybe that's why at a malaysian open house ppl fill their plates to the breaking point.

i've got streamyx at home now so i should be posting more frequently :) the trouble i had to go through to set it up. post that later.

subjects

i have lots of things to blog early in the morning before i get into office. but once i get in i'll forget the things i want to blog ! hmmmm....there must be a way of getting around this. please don't recommend a voice recorder coz it won't work for me.

on Sat i went out with my wife to 5 pay less books < ok could be 4 but sure felt like 6> to help her look for books. you know after the 3rd store i had trouble keeping my head up straight, it was tilting to the right. the result of too much tilting - looking at book titles.
when we had a break and had some tea i consiously tilted my head to the left a bit to counter the effects.i'm ok now. phew...
but it's scarry to think that there's so much things to write about ! i can't help feeling sorry for the trees.
they're actually a wonderful place to visit, and you can get wonderful bargains. i wish they have a list of books we can search online and know which outlet to go pick them up.

Happy Birthday Mrs Chief

i checked and found out that i left out a birthday wish for Mrs Chief last year.
so this year i'm making it up with this blessing.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace

somehow this doesn't seem enough but it'll have to do for time being

evolve

i read with interest how now the NegaraKu song will be reverted back to it's original pace and rendition.

wow that's back to 1957 (supposing it was officially launched then).
forcing something back from way back then to the now generation IMHO will certainly not go down well. we can see this from the numerous song and movies that have been remixed and remade.

our lifestyle, outlook on things & culture changes,in fact the only thing constant is change and of course God & His words.

the 'official' one can still be used during official functions but for the rest it should be relaxed. what if a pop group sang it and it went to number 1 in the US or UK chart (hypothetical question) wouldn't it be good for Malaysia ?

as long is it's not turned into heavy metal !

so far so good

well the week passed (today is Friday isn't it ?) slowly but without much incident. most of the things went as planned (Thank God for that).
for time being everyone involve can breath easy except for a poor little girl. she's been very brave through it all.
what puzzles most of us is the lack of planning by certain quarters. we get information so last minute that we're always seen to be withholding information till the very last minute and taking actions without thinking things over.
i feel bad for all involve.

* it's ok if most of you don't know what's going on. i'm very good at living out crucial details. sometimes my wife would tell me, chief! i don't know what you're talking about, there's too many blanks to fill!

i just need to get this off my chest.

it's gonna be a long week

God really knows that i needed to see the rainbows. this is will be a long week as there is an issue in which my hands are tied. as the week wears on, more information have come to light and what seems to be an easy thing is not that anymore.

we were provided with some good advice ( it came in quite a harsh manner )but since i did not seek them earlier i'm in a predicament. to wash my hand from it now would mean i'm not keeping my word, but to continue would depend on the other party's action/commitment as well.

it's quite a complicated issue and it would not be fair to all involve if i blog openly about it now. God willing some day down the road i'll be able to explain it all.

all i can say now is that till now i can see the hand of God in this matter.

Rainbow

this morning i had to wake up early (7am) it was a bit cloudy so my spirit was a bit down. partly because i was in the office till 12.15 this morning assisting with some show. i'm one of those that need longer hours of sleep, so this morning isn't exactly the best day of the week.

but all that changed coz while leaving home for work we saw a rainbow. it's not one with a full arch, just less than half is visible but it was enough to life my spirit. suddenly there's the extra charge of energy and the day looked much brighter.

further down we saw that there were two rainbow and i was like wow ! it's like God is confirming something in my life and the two rainbows are there to make it doubly clear to me.

suddenly i'm looking forward to this week.
