manual auto gate

my auto gate konked after 11 years. not too bad, just got the motor replaced. 1K. hopefully it will last another 10 years.

my dad was the one who advised me to put in an autogate. good advice too, when it rains or when we get home at some ungodly hour, just tekan* the remote and the gate opens. we've only had some problems with it opening by itself in the earlier years when there were lots of constructions going on. after that, it worked well till last week.

i could hear the motor spin but the gate didn't move. called the guys who installed it for us (yes, they're still around). he gave me his brother's number and the next day came and had a look. something's broken and i've adjusted it. if it happens again you'll have to change the motor.
guess when they say that it just means better put aside money for it, coz after 2 days it died on us. happened on a weekend, so we had a manual auto gate over the weekend.

good thing it didn't rain when we had to go out or when we got back from somewhere. i was getting used to pulling and pushing the gate, in fact i was beginning to see some muscles developing.

today they came and got it fixed. there goes my workout.

why move ??

as i enquire about my remaining leave days, the hr girl asked me, why do you want to leave ? not that i'm very close to her, but within these 2 months since the VSS and takeover, there have been over 30 resignations. for a company now left with 200+ people, this figure represent more than 10%.

there have been of change in protfolios and increase in workload (as expected), but there's also a change in the climate, culture and unseen structures torn down. without new directions from new CEO and HOD, work goes on, with much uncertainty. there are still rumours of retrenchment going round.

for myself, it's to move on to a cutting edge company with huge potential for growth. it's run by people who value talent more than bottom line (this is not to say the botton line is not important, they have targets and incentives when financial targets are met).

it helps that i've worked with them before and know the culture and expectation

cross road

well, yesterday i went to for a quick interview and saw the offer letter ! the dollar and cents part does not look too good (i'll be taking a 'pay cut'), working hour is worse (5 1/2 day week instead of 5) and the location is horrendous (ampang area).

my wife is really upset about it. it's actually the working hours that she worries about. I've been down this road before (well, different role, same industry), working really long hours and sometimes throughout the weekend as well.
she's worried as i'm not as involved in the family as she like.

we had a chat about it yesterday and basically she thinks that i'll still move no matter what she said.

looks like we'll need to sit down further to work things out some more.

auto lock

every morning after my son gets up onto the car, i would lock the car doors before driving off. yesterday before i could do that my son reached his and over and locked the door for me.

must lock doors right, he said. ya...., i replied if not, papa can fall off. aha..... , and i started driving.

guess sometimes it's not too good to 'scare' your children by telling them some urban myth when you want them to so something.

when he was smaller, he used to pull at the door handles when the car was moving, so our back doors have child lock on them. sitting behind makes you feel like a VIP coz the driver or whoever is sitting in front will have to open the door for you. .....unless of course you're in a hurry to rush to the toilet or something !

ok....., i know you have a driver !

i've been meaning to post this for quite some time now, but never got around to doing it, then i see a car with the front passenger seat pushed right to the front i would say to myself i'll blog about it.

yep, guess we've all seen it. a big car, the person driving it is obliviously a driver, but just in case you miss all that, the front passenger seat is pushed right to the front and the reclining angle of the seat also tilted like 75 degrees to the front.

aiyo.....come on, if you think the big car that's ferrying you (which is most probably company owned) is not big enough, go demand for a bigger/longer car !

how big can one's ego be !
