drawing

my daughter's drawing, did it for some mother nature charity at 1U 3 years back before the new wing was constructed. we had thought only selected tiles would be displayed but i think they displayed all the tiles. not a bad investment as for only rm 10, you get to do a painting, a t-shirt and a cotton bag with a whole lot of discount brochures. the priceless moment was looking for their tiles and seeing their face light up when they found it !

will not be blogging again so soon, my wife's going to HK and i'll be babysitting. ;) - don't know at the end of it who will be crying, my children or me.

Embarrassed by the public toilet

no...., the toilet was very clean. but when i went to wash my hand on one of those 'press down & water will come out' tap, the embarrassing thing happened.
when i press the tap, the water came gushing out,...the water sprayed from my hand onto the my pants. i was able to avoid most of the spray but that's the embarrassing part. the spray were few enough to give people the impression that it got wet while i was doing what i was doing when guys finish peeing.

had to wait a while for the marks to dry off a bit before going out again. sigh....good thing no date waiting for me !

free hot water

these days that's what you get when you turn on the tap. at my place even in the evening and someday nights you'll still get that. one can get a 2nd degree burn from it. when i take a shower i feel like an egg that is soaking in the container where you make 1/2 boiled eggs. it's really frustrating as for me this used to be the fastest was of cooling down.

on these hot nights i want to thank the person who invented the sarong. i only wear it to sleep but will now consider wearing it around the house in the evening.

Methuselah

Methuselah is ill, he was not eating for 4-5 day and have been very weak.(if he dies at such tender age, we would be guilty of giving him the wrong name). we've been having sleepless nights because of him.

took him to a vet at zoo negara staff quarters & he ordered to have him soak in various liquid mixtures. i was telling my wife that if we soak him any more frequently, he'll turn into a turtle. thankfully he's been responding well to the soakings. we found that the more effective liquid to soak him in are natural yoghurt and red bull.

today, moved quite a bit when placed in the park and even managed to take 3 bites ( yes we observe him that closely) before becoming inactive again.
hopefully in 2 or 3 days time he'll be beck to his normal self.

MyKad

the day before CNY i went to National Registration Department in Shah Alam to get MyKad done. my wife and i were there by 6.30 to join the q,despite being so very early we were only in the top 20,there were people who actually came earlier. it's a very competitive 'sport', some had dropped off their partners to joins the q as they looked for a car park (which is not difficult to find at all at that hour)

i must say the q there were quite organized as there were people who had been there before. at around 7.30 (yes, there'll be no escaping the hour wait. you either start earlier or do it later) an officer came along, thanking everyone q-ing and distributed forms to be filled in order to get a number at the service counter. i was told filling these forms is not a guarantee that you'll get a number for MyKad service. you might be told to come again another day.(each ic get you 1 form - so yes you can take with you extra ics & get forms for your spouse, brother, sister and so on. they don't have to q there with you but can come when the office opens)

after the office opens, the q got a bit messy as there were people who tried to jump q. the counter service girl was strict and made sure those who were late join the q.
the whole process of getting number, waiting for your turn to have your fingerprint digitized,& your sleepy photo taken took less than 1/2 hour and we were out of there by 8.40am. i was told it was quite a light day as many have taken advantage of the long holiday over the festive season.

so if you've not got your mykad done, select a good date (don't have to consult your fung sui master), be there early and don't forget to wear a dark shade collar t-shirt,

My new torchlight

a belated birthday present from a friend in HK. it runs on 3 AAA cells and is probably as bright as a single tube flurocent light energency light. it's got 19 LED bulds !

now i'm looking forward to a torch light my wife will be getting me on her trip to HK.

15454

keep the number handy, you might need it from time to time. it's the TNB hotline.
there was a blackout at my place on Sunday morning - 2+am, tried to call TNB but guess what, both my house phones are cordless phones ! so cannot call. use handyphone, i mean handphone. dail with a 03 in front of number. got the reply, 'nombor ini tiada dalam perkhidmatan'. wah teruklah this time, no fan how to sleep !

anyway, i called digi helpline, guess what, someone actually answered after having to press all the annoying numbers to speak to someone. told her about the 03-15454 thingy. turns out you don't have to add 03 for these number. ( yes the same goes for 103 - i tried ).

learn a new thing everyday !

wooden cloth peg

the other day when i was having lunch at the restaurant, i noticed they still use wooden cloth peg as part of their ordering/delivery system.
i've been intrigued by this simple yet effective system using a very low tech & 'old' invention.
there usually will be a pigeon hole to store all the cloth pegs with table numbers written on them. when an order is done, wooden pegs are clipped with the order sheet.( 1 peg for each dish ). these pegs will follow through to the plates where raw materials are prepared till it's done. the waiter that picks up the cooked dish, pegs tells them which table, diners gets the dishes they ordered, everyone's happy. wooden cloth peg goes back to pigeon hole till it gets pick up again.

production houses still uses them to hold gels ( coloured papers ) over lights which can get very hot in a short time. nicer plastic ones will melt in no time.

time flies when you're having fun,...so they say. well 1st month is up and i'm falling behind on my new year resolutions. this month i'll be taking steps to correct some of them. will not say what are the ones i'm behind but it's pretty much all of them.
thank God the 365 days are divided into months !
