my ruler is back

as in for measuring ruler, not my wife. things are never around when you want them to be ( not that my desk is that messy anymore. . . OK-lah, can do better ).
the few people that i ask if they had felt the earthquake said yes but had thought it was due to paranormal activities (more accurately put - hantu).
my sister sms me but i read it only in the morning after all the drama was over. how to live up to the name of the blog ?? getting old-lah.

Easter Sunday

If the story ended with Jesus dying on the cross on Friday, then there'll be nothing to celebrate. indeed the story did not finish there but continues on with His resurrection on Sunday !!
Alleluia the Jesus is risen, He lives !!

Good Friday

Good for all. when i was younger, i used to think it would be an easy thing to die for a cause. even dying on the cross. i mean if you know by your dying, the whole of humanity would be saved. would you do it ?

of course you & i wouldn't do. we could die but we won't be able to save humanity.

What Christ had to go through physically.

Scourging
The usual instrument was a short whip (flagellum) with several single or braided leather thongs of variable lengths, in which small iron balls or sharp pieces of sheep bones were tied at intervals. As the Roman soldiers repeatedly struck the victim's back with full force, the iron balls would cause deep contusions, and the leather thongs and sheep bones would cut into the skin and Subcutaneous tissues.
Then, as the flogging continued, the lacerations would tear into the underlying skeletal muscles and produce quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh. The Roman soldiers, amused that this weakened man had claimed to be a king, began to mock him by placing a robe on his shoulders, a crown of thorns on his head, and a wooden staff as a scepter in his right hand.Next, they spat on Jesus and struck him on the head with the wooden staff. Moreover, when the soldiers tore the robe from Jesus' back, they probably reopened the scourging wounds.

Crucifixion
Although the Romans did not invent crucifixions they perfected it as a form of torture and capital punishment that was designed to produce a slow death with maximum pain and suffering. It was one of the most disgraceful and cruel methods of execution and usually was reserved only for slaves, foreigners, revolutionaries, and the vilest of criminals
It was customary for the condemned man to carry his own cross from the flogging post to the site of crucifixion outside the city walls. Since the weight of the entire cross was probably well over 300 lb. (136 kg), only the crossbar was carried. The patibulum, weighing 75 to 125 lb. (34 to 57 kg),was placed across the nape of the victim's neck and balanced along both shoulders. Usually, the outstretched arms.then were tied to the crossbar.
A heavy, square wrought-iron nail is driven through the wrist and deep into the wood, being careful not to pull the arms too tightly, but to allow some flexion and movement. The left foot was pressed backward against the right foot. With both feet extended, toes down, a nail was driven through the arch of each, leaving the knees moderately flexed. The victim was now crucified.

On the Cross
As Jesus slowly sagged down with more weight on the nails in the wrists, excruciating, fiery pain shot along the fingers and up the arms to explode in the brain. The nails in the wrists were putting pressure on the median nerve, large nerve trunks which traverse the mid-wrist and hand. As He pushed himself upward to avoid this stretching torment, He placed His full weight on the nail through His feet. Again there was searing agony as the nail tore through the nerves between the metatarsal bones of this feet.
At this point, another phenomenon occurred. As the arms fatigued, great waves of cramps swept over the muscles, knotting them in deep relentless, throbbing pain. With these cramps came the inability to push Himself upward. Hanging by the arm, the pectoral muscles, the large muscles of the chest, were paralyzed and the intercostal muscles, the small muscles between the ribs, were unable to act. Air could be drawn into the lungs, but could not be exhaled. Jesus fought to raise Himself in order to get even one short breath. Finally, the carbon dioxide level increased in the lungs and in the blood stream, and the cramps partially subsided.

Death
The common method of ending a crucifixion was by crurifracture, the breaking of the bones of the leg. This prevented the victim from pushing himself upward; the tension could not be relieved from the muscles of the chest, and rapid suffocation occurred. The legs of the two thieves were broken, but when the soldiers approached Jesus, they saw that this was unnecessary.
Apparently, to make doubly sure of death, the legionnaire drove his lance between the ribs, upward through the pericardium and into the heart. John 19:34 states, "And immediately there came out blood and water." Thus there was an escape of watery fluid from the sac surrounding the heart and the blood of the interior of the heart. This is rather conclusive post-mortem evidence that Jesus died, not the usual crucifixion death by suffocation, but of heart failure due to shock and constriction of the heart by fluid in the pericardium.

If Jesus had remained dead, Christianity would be nothing but an empty promise. But three days after His death, He rose again from the dead. This is the miracle of resurrection, which is what Christians celebrate at Easter. To learn more about the resurrection, read John chapters 20 and 21.

that's what i've been getting most days since my wife bought a 'as seen on tv' juicer. she also bought a book to teach her the various 'cocktail' that are good for different ailments.
the juice they don't taste as bad as you think, maybe it's coz you don't get the pulp ( mum made me some with pulp - what to do ? pinch the nose and drink it all down fast. like in 1 breath. )
my wife claims that my 'spare tyre' has gone down since i started taking it. ya meh ? well when wify wants to complement, just take only-lah ;)
Hmm... wonder if it'll get my weight down as well!

on his own

met up with an old friend for lunch today. not that he is old but we've know each other for many years now. we started off in the same company, now he's on his own - a small production company doing corporate videos and some very nice infomercial.
over lunch, what else is there to talk but of 'old' times and other friends from the same company. well some are doing well and some not so well but more importantly, some have moved on while some have 'lingered' on and feel bitter about what had happened after a corporate takeover.
it was strange a time. before that,it was the most care free company to work for. sure everyone works real hard but we party hard as well. everyone there were like a family, spending longer hours at office than home(read - no life).
when the suits came in, the ousted gm started his own outfit, took some people with him, others deemed loyal to the gm were cold storaged and those deemed neutral were kept. as always with new management came new people. and for a while most people did not know how to behave toward each other. looking back,it was quite funny. you really got to know who were your friends.
me...well, i survived without any hard feeling toward anyone and am glad to have a life now.
it's nice to catch up once a while, yet sad that i cannot do more to help out.

Found out

What are the chances of being found out if you've taken precautions to remain anonymous? well a colleague of mine called me this morning and asked me a weird question that you don't really want to answer - it's one of those innocent, but in the end there's the GOTCHA question.

she asked - mrChief, do you blog? mrChief, being a good christian, hesitated and reluctantly said yes.

of course you know what the next question is the GOTCHA question -

she asked again - Sleepless in PJ your blog ?
mrChief - ya......
she - Ohh...i thought the description of yourself on the blog sounds familiar,.. don't worry (your secret is safe with me - she actually doesn't say that but if YOU are reading this that's what you meant right ?)I'll be visiting you blog from time to time, bye.

now, what are the chances or 1 visiting a blog and correctly guessing who the owner is ? must be .....
better change my description.

nosy neighbour

yesterday i was being a nosy neighbour. not that i can help it. peeping from behind my master bedroom window i saw a guy climbed onto the roof to reach the master bedroom window, tap at the window with the key ( which makes a sharp 'tek' sound ), and shouting something at someone in the house.
i had initially thought that someone had left his key and was trying to get his family's attention (like i always do when i left my keys behind...actually now a days i just call from my mobile phone).
after a while (long enough to wake me and other neighbours), he jumped down, got into his car and drove off. can you beat that.
after i calm myself and getting ready to fall asleep .... here comes 2 rescue 911 vehicle to the same house. they were followed by 2 guards on a noisy motobike. there goes my sleep again. i stood in the dark looking out waiting for the rescuers to pull out some cool gear to help free someone or catch a huge snake or wheel people out someone onto the rescue vehicle. no such luck. i had thought to go down and find out what had happened but did not do it. too late, too tired, too sleepy.
i didn't get to find out what exactly happened. but i hope everything is well with them. i know them but my wife knows them better. she's not going to ask them in-case it embarrassed them further.

All Set

well, not all ... but have booked tickets to KK for April to climb Mount Kinabalu. mrs Chief keeps reminding me that i now have about a month to get myself into shape before the climb or i won't enjoy it one bit. it's been 10 years since i last climber it. i was very fit then, not to mention much younger.
ok will remember to go jogging no matter how late i get home. the hard part is always peeling yourself off the bed. once you're through that part, the rest is easier. it's never easy.

all is calm

Wife is back from HK, she had a wonderful time there and was very tired. have not really got a detailed update from her apart from the looking for my torch light episode. she had to walk really far to find the place where they sell the torch just to find out that they were selling it at a much higher price that what the were offering on the internet (on-line shopping). the salesguy sighted handling charges as the reason why it's so expensive. ?? just honkies trying to rip some tourists off. i mean what handling charges ? it only applies when you but on-line but not when you make a effort to go to their showroom. i will definitely file a complaint !
